About the Film
Written, Directed and Animated by Alex Myung, this 2D-animated film explores one boy's struggle to face the truth of his life and love, and reveal it to the person he cares about most. Arrival delves into the often unexamined ripple effect that hiding your true self has on loved ones around you.
The Animation
Arrival was traditionally animated onto paper in the classic style. The 22 minute film was storyboarded to create a visual script for the animation process. It is comprised of roughly 7,000 drawings which were scanned and then digitally inked and colored. Each background was painted digitally for the final touch.
The Concept
A true coming of age story, Arrival follows one boy's journey into adulthood, and the messy, complicated relationships that go with it. The story of the film pulls from Myung's past relationships. It portrays a uniquely modern LGBTQ couple, exploring the highs and lows that come with feeling guilty for loving the right person.
